Our Story

Unobtainium Welding was founded by Chris McQuay. It is the culmination of his passion for welding and metallurgy and his love of all things automotive, including Formula 1 and drag racing.

He started welding and fabricating part-time in his early teens, wanting to buy his first car. He quickly discovered his love of building things and the convenient connection between welding and working on cars. While pursuing his welding accreditation, he gained valuable experience in many industrial fields from oil and gas to aerospace. While working as a welding instructor at the local college, he aspired to inspire the next generation of car enthusiasts and welding apprentices. After leaving instructing for consulting opportunities, he travelled throughout Canada, USA and some overseas destinations to assist larger companies troubleshoot welding and fabrications quality issues, develop welding procedures and train welders.
